In May 2023, I embarked on this spontaneous adventure with a friend I had just met at the time and her friend from Detroit. Together, we traveled a 7,000 km loop starting from Montreal, passing through Toronto, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas, and Missouri, with the goal of reaching the Rocky Mountains.

Kilometer after kilometer, we crossed rural and mountainous landscapes, punctuated by stops at gas stations of sometimes absurd size, stranded in the middle of the only road stretching across endless plains, nights spent in a tent, motels, or the car. Along the way, through places like Ypsilanti, Leadville, Colorado Springs, Nederland, Boulder, and many others, we discovered an America far removed from the hustle, bustle, and race toward modernity.
